On this page I'll include some of my tips and tricks I've learned while doing this project. Where appropriate, I'll include steps or pictures to help clarify my explanations.

Please feel free to contribute your own tips - I'll post the best ones so everyone can see them.

We aquired the shack October 2007, and have started working on it, the first thing was to put on an addition with a toilet, shower, etc.

Tip 1: Look everywhere for stuff, tell everyone, you never know who has what you want.

Tip 2: Go to you local home shows talk to everyone, it is amazing how many people have items left over from projects and are willing to trade.

As an example of tip 1, I was picking up wood pellets for the pellet stove at the local hardware store, and noticed a hotwater heater in the corner, with an install date of 06/07/07. I questioned why it was there and was told it was warrantied out because it would not stay lit, and was told they where going to haul it to the landfill.  I volunteered to do that, thinking what could be wrong with a new water heater?  Turns out they must not had it hooked up to get outside air, we got it going and it works great,  Savings $450.00
